Northwest Lightning
Pennant Hills Juniors has a proud tradition of supporting girls AFL as part of the Sydney Juniors competition.
All our girls teams play as part of the Northwest Lightning, an alliance with neighbouring club Westbrook. The Alliance is the longest-running and most successful girls football alliance in Sydney, and was formed in 2016 to promote the girls game in the Hills and Hornsby Shires.
Teams in 2026
In 2026, the Lightning is fielding teams in each age division in the Sydney Juniors competition, which is divided by age into two-year groups.
Lightning teams train on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesdays are focused on older-age teams and skill development; Thursdays are for all teams and focus on game performance. Matches are played usually Sundays across the AFL Sydney Juniors competition.
Alliance History
The Alliance was formed in 2016 between the Pennant Hills, Westbrook and Hornsby junior AFL clubs to promote girls football and to enter girls teams for the first time in the AFL Sydney Juniors competition.
The alliance fielded its first side, a combined Under 14s team, and hosted its first match at Mike Kenny Oval, Cherrybrook in May 2016 against the Concord Giants.
The alliance secured its first premiership in 2023 with its Under 12s team beating the Canada Bay Cannons in the Grand Final hosted at Mike Kenny Oval. The alliance celebrated its second premiership in 2025 with its Under 12s team defeating Forest Lions at Mike Kenny Oval.
Since 2025, the alliance has been a joint venture between Pennant Hills and Westbrook.
